Negombo Beach


Sri Lanka is and will always remain a unique destination for all the travellers, looking for a unforgettable holiday .The tiny island are of white sand, with exotic coral reef that makes it the perfect holiday destination.
Located at a distance of 37 km from Colombo and mere 6 km from International Airport, Negombo is a traditional fishing town of Sri Lanka. The town has several buildings that date back to the Dutch and Portuguese colonial era.The large number of churches and statues of saints that exists here from the Portugese rule, stand testimony to the predominantly Catholic leanings of the town. The presence of such large number of churches is the reason why many have nicknamed Negombo as “Little Rome” .Regarded as the traditional fishing town, no wonder Negombo is a gourmet's delight with seafood available in plenty.
The major beach resort in the West Coast is Negombo. Negombo is one of the developed Beach Resort in the western region. The wide sandy beaches and the safe sea are the major attractions of Negombo. It is a traditional fishing town. Besides the beach, that is pristine and exquisite, another major tourist attraction of this town is the fish market. The fish market is ever bustling area where busy trading of a variety of fish including prawns, crabs and seer takes place in the mornings, when the fishing crafts return to the shore with their catch. The fish market is worth a visit to every tourist visiting this town on the west coast of Sri Lanka. The most popular fishing craft is the outrigger canoe called oruwa dug out from a huge log and is seen in large numbers in the Negombo lagoon.
Negombo has the virtue of being the closed beach resort to Katunayake International Airport, thus it features on the itinerary of many tourists, though for a very short stay.
